As mentioned in earlier review my first purchase/experience was two of these shields. One shown with UNO underneath, the other empty. I was impressed enough with the features that getting two seem like a good idea at the time. Turns out it was a very good idea. Allows testing of code ideas without wondering if the problem is with the code or with the wiring since there is not a requirement to do wiring, and you know the hardware works. Great product for the beginner, experienced users will also find it a time saver for testing ideas without having to do a lot of wire poking into a breadboard and hunting for parts. Most of what is needed is already present on the shield.

What a fantastic device! I have been an amateur radio operator (Ham Radio) for the past 27 years. Not having a background in electronics or radio, I have been fascinated by radio communications. I have built several morse code low power radios which have allowed me to communicate with distant countries using just battery power. The newer low power morse code radio kits are all built around a microprocessor such as the ATmega328 (QCX QRP lab kit).
I needed to know "How do microprocessors work and how do they control a radio"?
The Arduino UNO is the perfect tool to learn about programming. Combining the Arduino with the Dr.Duino board and the free video crash course that came with the Dr. Duino kit is the perfect match. Putting the board together was easy since I love to melt solder! The beauty of the board is that I can focus on learning coding (C++) without the hassle of using a breadboard and single components. The course that comes with the kit is Excellent (https://academy.programmingelectronics.com). Bottom line is that the Dr. Duino kit is just what the doctor ordered (sorry for the pun). I am learning about programming and having fun.

Took careful soldering to complete, but works well. Saves time when learning basic Arduino commands
Walter S.
Well engineered. Did the initial tests but life getting in the way of doing more right now.

I’m a novice when it comes to Arduino, so Dr. Duino sounded like a good idea. Assembly was a bit challenging, but that was mostly because I built it while sitting in my recliner using a two drawer file cabinet. Everything works as it should with the exception of the RS232. The DB9 connector sent was a female. Pins 2 & 3 were actually 3 &4. I used 3 of the remaining header pins and a jumper to verify the program worked as intended. Now I get to learn to program and build things. I am really looking forward to it. Thank you very much. I missed the last programming academy sale, perhaps there will be another.
John D.
The kit went together easily in less than an hour.
Ruth R.
The board went together very nicely. It's easier to start with shorter components and work your way up to taller ones.
ryan m.
The board works great for debugging.
I have several IOT projects.
Wiring was easy and quick just follow the professionally done directions.
I plugged the intact male breakaway headers into the female headers to make sure they were lined up while soldering.
I'm also using it to teach my three grandsons how to program.
(They are very young and don't have to wait to wire up a bread board.)
I am recoding the Arduino examples to match the board.
Everyone going through all the Arduino examples will probably do that.
Not a negative but two of the four buttons are opposite (1 when not pushed, 0 when pushed) and I had to follow the trace to find out why. No problem but a wiring diagram would be nice. Digital and analog ports are clearly marked on the board so not a big issue.
Great service.
One thing was a big issue.
One side of one the the caps had pulled up from the Arduino board.
When I reported it Dr Duino replaced the board right away.
Thanks Doc!

Just got enough spare time today to assemble my DR. Duino shield. Everything went together perfectly and initial testing shows everything works. Now onto more advanced ham radio related projects!

Fantastic customer support! I'm working on a Morse code key paddle with an IR link using Dr Duino. I had a problem that I thought was due to a bad board (it wasn't) so I submitted a ticket at 8:46 yesterday evening. I had a response back from Guido in 10 minutes asking a few questions that led me to the solution. A jumper was in the wrong position. Guido had me check a few things to be sure all was OK. Thanks Dr Duino!!
The picture shows the now working breadboard hardware. The transmitter breadboard is shown on the left with popsicle sticks blocking two optical interrupters simulating a "dot" and a "dash", the receiver breadboard is on the right, the scope trace shows the received signals, and the Dr Duino LEDs D10 and D11 are illuminated showing that both "dots" and "dashes" are being received.

An easy kit to put together, and a very powerful little tool!

Fun to put together...had to wait to assemble because it was a Christmas gift from my wife...
Board worked the first time, after I remembered to put all the jumpers on the 3 position headers. Cute little jingle coming out of the buzzer.
Gregory B.
Unit mounted on board with speaker , Switch is connected to JP18 pin 2&3 to switch on and off RS232 port when down loading Pgms.
Todd T.
The board works perfectly and I am enjoying the experience. My kit was short a potentiometer, but I contacted Dr, Duino and one was sent out immediately. Great customer service!
JOHN P.
The DrDuino PCB board and included components are of excellent quality. Assembly was a pleasure. Test sketch ran flawlessly.
Assembly Tip: Use a wooden clothespin to hold the three-pin headers in position and
alignment when soldering the first pin.
John C.
Bought to help me bridge my knowledge of the arduino environment. I'm a propeller advocate and am trying other platforms to round out my experience.
Raymond R.
All your bragging of completed boards brought several bags of parts an empty board and no instructions. Disappointed beyond words.
Michael W.
The board was easy to stuff and worked ok. the usb port was a very tight fit for the connector, but it didn't cause a problem. The long connector on the supplied cable would have worked better, but the cable was too short. The test program worked fine but I wanted to write my own. Learning which i/o went where and how to access the analog using Bascom was fun.
The rs232 port worked well with an old lap-top. Usb port worked ok on a windows 8 computer, but not Windows 2000 or XP. Down loaded drivers you suggested and all was well.
Hope this helps someone. M.W.

Great kit very enjoyable to build. Got three more to give as Christmas gifts to my son and a couple friends.
Thanks

Sorry guys, I have been traveling since two or three days after I received my initial dr. Dunno kit. I did review it, downloaded the assembly instructions and quickly reviewed them along with the initial lessons for Arduino beginners. It appears to me it will be a fun kit to work with and the training materials are well done. I think I will enjoy the entire package once I get back home and have time to work with it. I plan to eventually integrate the Arduino package into a number of applications that relate to my amateur radio projects.
Alan M.
I'm still building it, but it looks like it will be a valuable asset to my Arduino setup. I process sensors and circuits to interface with my PLC hardware setup.
Gary A.
The board went together pretty quickly, though my soldering skills were rusty. A small problem that I caused was quickly resolved with help from DrDuino himself. I 3D printed a small tray to rest the board in so that I wouldn't bump the components when working on it. I'm working on a sketch to use the 8-light NeoPixel that came with my kit.

Nice unit. Well made and should be a handy addition to my lab. Only one possible improvement i.e. a good schematic would be worth 10,000 words.
William E.
I am an Electrical Engineer and have done a lot of Arduino stuff. This looked like a great experimenters platform but have been too busy to build it yet..full review to follow when I am done.
Tim K.
Your starter kit has actually launched me on a path to developing a new lifesaving product in my field of aviation.
I conceived it and built the first iteration on your board. Oh – and I filed the patent last week.

I recently ordered and built the DrDuino kit. It took only 4 days to arrive and went together without any confusion or problems in around 2 hours. I used the code that was sent to check out the board and it worked perfectly the first time ! I am also impressed with how well the circuit board was tinned making perfect solder joints every time. It also very quickly became obvious that a lot of thought had been put into the instruction manual to help the user avoid mistakes in construction. All in all I am really surprised at how much time I am going to save by not having to work with bread boards and lots of wires hanging around when testing code. This platform is truly portable and can be used almost anywhere.
Thanks for a great product and support system which has so far been amazing.

Its a great tool for setting up the arduinio before breadboard or any soldering. Just plug the arduino in and program. Simple. I'll buy a few more for gifts also. This picture is the package I'm sending my cousin.
Glenn P.
Instructions are clear. A "pencil" soldering iron is desirable.
Gary M.
A nice little kit! It arrived quickly, 100% complete, parts-wise. It took about 90 minutes to sort the parts, scan the directions, and solder it up. It worked perfectly the first time it was connected. Hint: Use very small diameter (0.020 inch) solder and fine tipped soldering iron. They will make the job easier, with almost no chance of solder bridges.
Michael D.
Kit came in good condition with all parts. Assembly was easy, but some details were left out and some parts were placed upside down. This was my fault for not reading the directions, there,s no picture for proper orientation of some parts. The three pin jumpers were soldered on the wrong side of the board. It still works, after some modification.
Ronald G.
Received it faster than I thought. Went directly to my soldering station. Took my time. Completed in 1 hour. Ran the testing, and no bad surprises. Planning my first project. As a Ham and a MARS station I thought a Weather Station would be a good first project. I’m off to a great start. Thanks Dr. Duino.
Donald B.
The kit was very easy to put together (I have been making my own pcbs since 2004) so I have a lot of soldering experience. I have already used the board's test points to check exact Vout of IOREF for a project I am working on where the absolute voltage is critical . It is not exactly 5 volts and this pin made checking it so simple. I know I will use this kit on every project I make from now own. It is so easy to verify code, voltages, and simulate what code will do with buttons, outputs, and potentiometers.

Recently purchased the DrDuino board and was very impressed with the manual. Many years ago I built several Heathkit products and thought their detailed construction manuals were the best anywhere. But the manual that Guido/DrDuino has put together is even better. Very easy to follow with great pictures.
Once completed, I had some problems which turned out to be my fault (poor soldering on some of the points). I contacted Guido first, instead of a thorough check of my soldering, and he responded immediately and helped me get everything back on track. So, bottom line: Excellent product and superior support. Thanks Guido! Brian T Boise, Idaho

Saw the kit in QST magazine and it sounded like a great kit to build. Went together with no problem. I then ran the Arduino test program and everything checked out just fine.
David G.
I am a first time Arduino fiddler and found this kit easy to construct and fun to work with. All the parts were in place when the kit arrived and I was able to finish its construction easily when my new soldering gun arrived. Loved doing this project.
James S.
Easy to build

Easy testing of esp32-cam programs for the Arduino...
Mounted on a plexi glass board with 2 proto boards makes it easy

The DrDuino kit came complete, with a very good set of instructions and lessons. The board went together well, and very easily. A good soldering iron is essential, here! The lessons and coursework are fun, and very easy to follow. My biggest problem is learning to "cut" code in C++. Lots of trial and error, hilarious fun and entertainment. The project board pictured is for a timer using a 16 x 2 lcd display. My next project will be a timer/clock.

I am evaluating the DR Duino for use is a STEM program. This presents a compact platform for teaching Arduino programming in a inexpensive format.
Robert G.
My Dr. Duino board has been very helpful helpful tool while troubleshooting some of my arduino coding and or sheild applications I've used. That's one setup in the picture!
But my best story is about Mr. Bonito's customer service.
My Dr.Duino board unfortunately was populated with a defective diode that had to be determined and replaced. It was almost the size of a grain of sand. Worse yet, there was no way I was going to be able to replace that part even if I was absolutely sure it was defective.
The good Dr. asked that I send it back to him to inspect and replace if necessary. Once received he agreed with my diagnoses and immediately provided me with a sparking new (and working) Dr. Duino board. What I'm saying in too many words is that Dr. Duino has your back if you run into any problems and it's not likely you'll ever regret this purchase if you're into using Uno's for all kinds of little projects as I am.
Derrick B.
Thank You Very Much, just completed it, works great the first time around.
Jesse o.
It was a great tool for learning electronics and even better for testing arduinos .
Paul M.
The kit arrived perfect and the instructions are awesome. Soldering the items on the board was very straight forward and then hooking it up and testing it was easy to follow. Having the LEDs and speaker already there makes experimenting a snap. Thanks for a great product!

Well I’m not moving as fast as I expected but am also getting used to a new Mac computer having always been a windows person before. Your product is great and well thought out and Michael James course is presented in the best way. As a former teacher of electronics I can speak from experience only wish it had been around 20 years ago. One trouble I have had has been soldering the very small pads for the transfer pins. I always thought I was an excellent solderer and am using an iron clad tip less than 1/16” but still had many cold joints in that area, no bridges though. Even when I tried to redo them and checked then out both with a ohm meter and in the program by changing the output pin they remained open. Finally I unwound some stranded tinned wire and soldered in jumpers where needed. Must be me loosing my touch but all is well now and working. As I taught digital and analog electronics close to 25 years ago almost of the material I’m familiar with, it’s the c++ that’s all new to me. Right now I’m just finishing up PCM.

Fast Shipping.
Good instruction manual.
All parts shipped as shown.
Going together well.

Item was very well thought out. Instructions for assembly were clear.

I was a bit daunted when I realized that I'd have to do quite a bit of soldering, but, by carefully following the instructions in "The Dr. Duino Starter Kit for the Arduino Uno", I was able to assemble all the parts into a working entity. As the parts were sorted into separate clear plastic baggies, I was able to locate and place the parts in their correct locations by following the color photos. I was also able to download the Arduino IDE and download the testing program to verify that the Dr. Duino Board was correctly working with the Arduino Uno. It helped some that I had a little experience with electronic components (e.g., resistors. potentiometers, transistors, capacitors, and LED's) and soldering. I recommend that anyone who buys this product download and read the assembly and testing instructions before starting assembly. Make sure that your parts are in the right locations before soldering (especially the sockets for the Arduino Uno board).
Patrick S.
Simple enough to build, but the software and hardware works great. Looking to expand the operation to other project but I had trouble adding the Cylon led light bar.
Ted T.
The board is very handy for testing out my ideas without having to wire up switches, LEDs or Pots on a breadboard. Since I'm certain that the wiring is proper, any problems with operation can be attributed to the code. One the code is corrected, I can move on to an actual project in a completed form.
Mike R.
Great kit, easy assembly if instructions are followed, like the access given to important test points. As my education goes along with new shields, boards and programming I know I will have access to the one tool I need to troubleshoot problems with the Arduno.
A great tool that I have not seen anywhere else.
Thank You
Steve D.
Built this to have a programmable controller to play with. Very nice. Looking forward to becoming proficient with it
Dean H.
Does a good job of testing boards.
Michael S.
What fun
Steve W.
I was expecting the product to have been already assembled. I enjoyed the assembly process and the instructions were extremely easy to follow. Very impressed overall!!
Robert M.
Really fun to build, and very educational.

My order arrived in very short order, about a week is all. Everything was packed well and in great condition. I took about 30 minutes to review all the parts and scan through the manual. I followed the directions and was complete in about an hour; very simple to assemble.
I haven't had mine for long at all and have already used the board for some prototyping. I find it very nice to have push buttons, potentiometer's, test points, buzzer, etc. for quick prototyping.
I would definitely recommend the Dr.Duino Shield for anyone interested in learning more about the Arduino UNO micro-controller, prototyping some of your ideas, etc.
Douglas V.
Very impressed with the with the Dr. Duino experience. From building the board with its quality components, instructions and test procedure, to using to board for prototyping and learning. The Dr. Duino makes testing new code easy with its may on board components and easy to access test points. Anyone who uses an Arduino Uno will find this board very useful.
Richard C.
Love this thing. Makes prototyping with the Arduino a snap. Very useful.
Mark K.
Every I/O being configurable and all the analogue as well makes this so easy to develop the code. I had mine running on a PH and ORP test rig prototype literally in seconds. Tested the code using the pots then reconfigured by connecting the real life inputs and it worked a treat..I am really pleased with how easy it is to use
Jimmie F.
Excellent product! Easy to construct and very useful in programming checkout for Arduino. Love it!
Ted T.
The board allowed me to explore several of the examples included in the IDE. Many times it was only necessary to make minor pin changes in the example sketch. After getting the sketch operational, I make changes to test and reinforce my understanding.
Tony V.
I had originally bought the Dr.Duino because of the builtin hardware (potentiometers, LEDs and buttons). It’s great for diving right into many of the example code sketches in the Arduino IDE without having to wire up breadboard. The more I learn, the more useful this tool has become for debugging and expanding my projects. This is one of the most important and useful tools I have on my desk.
